From Idol Runner-Up to Country Music’s Next Big Thing
Since capturing hearts across the country as the runner-up of American Idol Season 23, John Foster’s career has only gained momentum. One major highlight? Landing a performance with none other than country legend Craig Morgan, best known for the hit “That’s What I Love About Sunday.”
Foster recently made a thrilling announcement: his long-held dream of performing at the Grand Ole Opry is coming true.
“Tonight I had the pleasure of singing with Grand Ole Opry member Craig Morgan, and I’m incredibly honored to announce that I will make my Opry debut on Saturday, June 7th!” he shared on Instagram.
Foster went on to say that visiting the Opry for the first time moved him to tears.
“As an amateur country music historian, there is no more significant place to my passion than the Grand Ole Opry. This has been my #1 dream ever since I started music… and now, because of your support, my dream will come true. Glory be to God!”
Music City Milestones & What’s Next for Foster
Before stepping onto the legendary Opry stage, Foster will join American Idol Season 23 winner Jamal Roberts, fellow finalist Breanna Nix, and other contestants for a free, all-ages show in Nashville—his first official appearance in Music City.
“This will be my first ‘official’ appearance in Nashville, which is quite the milestone!” Foster wrote. “I can’t wait to perform for y’all!”
Hailing from Addis, Louisiana, Foster started his Idol journey as an 18-year-old college student and ended it as a national favorite. Along the way, he shared stages with country icons like Miranda Lambert, Jelly Roll, CeCe Winans, and Idol judges Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and Lionel Richie. His unforgettable duet with Bryan—Randy Travis’ “Deeper Than the Holler”—was a fan-favorite moment in the finale.
Looking back on his Idol experience, Foster shared:
“Man, what a true blessing to share this Idol stage with so many incredible heroes, both new faces and legends. I’m beyond thankful, and I can’t wait to keep making music for y’all as long as the good Lord lets me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart—times a million.”
