The 26-year-old Alabama-born country singer stepped onto the Blind Audition stage and performed Maren Morris’ “80s Mercedes,” bringing enough confidence and personality to earn chair turns from Kelly Clarkson, Riley Green and Queen Latifah.
Almost immediately, it looked like Riley might have the advantage.
Anna and Riley share Alabama roots, and her country sound appeared to make him an obvious match. Kelly seemed to notice the connection too. After seeing Anna looking in Riley’s direction, Kelly jokingly acted as though the battle was already over before the coaches had even finished making their pitches.
But Kelly wasn’t giving up that easily.
She reminded Anna that she loves country music despite being known for performing across several genres. Kelly also pointed to her previous success on The Voice and made the case that she knew how to help Anna navigate the competition.
Queen Latifah offered Anna a different perspective, telling her that while she was clearly country, she could also see her exploring music beyond one specific lane. Then Riley leaned heavily into their shared backgrounds, noting that they were both from Alabama and suggesting that he understood where Anna’s country roots came from.
It seemed like everything was lining up perfectly for Team Riley.
Even Adam Levine, who hadn’t turned his chair, joined the playful coach rivalry as Riley and Kelly battled for Anna.
Then came the decision nobody seemed prepared for.
Anna chose Kelly Clarkson.
Kelly was visibly surprised after spending much of the conversation seemingly convinced that Riley had already won Anna over. Adam celebrated the unexpected result, while Riley had to watch an Alabama country singer slip away to another team.
The choice gives Kelly something particularly interesting for Season 30: a country artist she managed to land directly against Riley, the show’s resident country coach.
Anna also arrived on The Voice with plenty of experience behind her. She was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, began singing when she was young, performed in church and eventually moved to Nashville to pursue songwriting and performing. She has also opened shows for established country performers and previously earned a ticket to Hollywood on American Idol.
Now she has another opportunity on national television — and her first major moment on The Voice already came with an unexpected twist.
Everyone expected the Alabama connection to send Anna straight to Riley Green.
Instead, Kelly Clarkson walked away with one of the country singers she had been waiting for.
