FOUR CHAIRS FOR LILLIE KOLICH — ‘The Voice’ Singer Sparks Major Coach Battle Before Making Surprise Decision

Lillie Kolich opened the final night of The Voice Season 30 Blind Auditions in a way that immediately put every coach on alert.

The 25-year-old singer stepped onto the stage with sombr’s “back to friends,” but rather than simply recreating the original, Lillie reshaped the song into something more emotional and personal.

Riley Green was the first coach to recognize what was happening.

He quickly pressed his button, and his reaction seemed to trigger the others.

Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine soon turned their chairs as well, while Queen Latifah eventually joined them, officially giving Lillie a coveted four-chair turn.

Suddenly, one of the last singers of the Blind Auditions had every coach competing for her.

Riley immediately found a connection when Lillie revealed that she lives in Nashville and has even spent time at his bar.

But his pitch went beyond geography.

He told Lillie that he heard a storyteller in her performance and said his goal would be to help her tell that story even more effectively as the competition continued.

Kelly was equally enthusiastic.

She praised Lillie’s tone and specifically highlighted how dramatically she had transformed “back to friends.”

Kelly admitted she had never imagined the song being performed with that kind of feel, telling Lillie that the choices she made were smart, distinctive and potentially very useful later in the competition.

Adam focused on another part of Lillie’s voice.

He explained that the beginning of the performance had a softer quality, but as the song developed he heard her open up and reveal much more power and range.

Adam used that dynamic shift as part of his pitch, reminding Lillie of his long history on The Voice and arguing that his experience could help her navigate the competition.

Then Queen Latifah made her case.

Queen praised Lillie for essentially redesigning the song around herself rather than simply copying sombr’s original.

She told Lillie that being able to take an established song and turn it into something that sounded uniquely hers showed the kind of artistic instincts that could carry her far beyond one Blind Audition.

With all four coaches interested, the decision appeared wide open.

Riley had the Nashville connection.

Kelly had immediately connected with Lillie’s tone and creative choices.

Adam offered years of experience coaching artists through the competition.

And Queen focused on Lillie’s ability to create her own musical identity.

But when Carson Daly asked for her decision, Lillie delivered the surprise.

She chose Queen Latifah.

The decision appeared to catch the panel off guard, particularly because Lillie had seemed to have natural connections with both Riley and Kelly during the coaches’ pitches.

Her choice also gave Queen one of the strongest possible additions to finish her Season 30 roster.

Lillie joined a Team Queen lineup that already included Chari, Kayleigh Mathews, Luke Cope, Mia Knight and several other distinctive singers.

And because her audition came right at the end of the Blind Auditions, there was almost no time to celebrate before the competition became more difficult.

Immediately after the teams were completed, The Voice moved directly into the Battle Rounds, where singers must compete against members of their own teams for the chance to continue.

For Lillie, though, the first challenge could hardly have gone better.

She took a current song, transformed it into something the coaches felt belonged to her, convinced all four of them to turn — and then made a coach choice few viewers saw coming.

Now the question isn’t whether Lillie Kolich can get the coaches’ attention.

She already proved she can.

The bigger question is what Queen Latifah will do with one of the final four-chair singers of Season 30.
