Ciara Miller is still struggling with the abrupt ending to her Dancing With the Stars journey.
Days after she and professional partner Brandon Armstrong were unexpectedly eliminated during Mariah Carey Night, the Summer House star opened up again about why leaving Season 35 after only four weeks has been so difficult.
And this time, Ciara became especially emotional while talking about the partnership she was forced to leave behind.
Ciara and Brandon were eliminated on October 6 after performing a high-energy Jazz routine to Mariah Carey’s “Emotions.”
The performance earned 21 out of 30 — Ciara’s highest score of the season — making the timing of their exit particularly painful.
Speaking on the official Dancing With the Stars companion podcast two days later, Ciara admitted she hadn’t expected her experience to end so quickly.
“It’s just sad,” she said, explaining that she had loved challenging herself every week and learning something completely new.
She added that she hated having the experience “cut short” and was simply “bummed” that she wouldn’t get the opportunity to keep progressing.
That disappointment makes sense considering the direction Ciara appeared to be heading.
Her judges’ scores had remained relatively modest during the opening weeks, but Mariah Carey Night represented a visible step forward.
The judges praised her improvement, and Carrie Ann Inaba called the Jazz routine her best performance so far.
Then, only minutes later, Ciara and Brandon were eliminated.
For Ciara, however, leaving wasn’t simply difficult because she wanted more weeks to dance.
Her relationship with Brandon had become one of the most meaningful parts of the experience.
When discussion turned toward their partnership and the support she had received from viewers, Ciara became tearful.
She explained that it was difficult to put into words what it meant knowing people had recognized how special the partnership had become.
Ciara said she loved the experience and wanted it to continue, repeatedly returning to how sad she was that it had suddenly ended.
Brandon has been equally open about his disappointment.
After the elimination, he said one of the hardest parts was believing Ciara shouldn’t have been the contestant going home.
Still, Brandon acknowledged the reality of the competition: viewers are told to vote for their favorite couples, meaning results are influenced by much more than technical dance ability alone.
He remained proud of Ciara and frustrated mainly because he felt they were finally beginning to unlock her potential when their run ended.
Ciara also revealed that the experience challenged something deeper in her.
After years in reality television, she said she had become accustomed to wanting to present the most polished version of herself publicly.
DWTS forced her to perform live while learning something unfamiliar — and to become comfortable with not being perfect.
She described stepping outside that comfort zone as one of the valuable lessons she will take away from the competition.
Her later podcast appearance revealed another frustration.
Ciara said she wished her time on Dancing With the Stars had given viewers even more opportunity to see who she is beyond the relationships and reality-TV storylines that have followed her on Summer House.
She pointed to other chapters of her life — including her previous work as an ICU nurse and the different career risks she has taken — as parts of herself she hoped viewers would get to know better.
Brandon strongly supported that sentiment.
He praised the depth and resilience he saw in Ciara throughout rehearsals and spoke positively about the person he had gotten to know away from the cameras.
Their bond appears to be one reason the elimination became so emotional for both of them.
And they weren’t the only ones disappointed.
Several members of the Season 35 cast said the announcement shocked them backstage.
Sharna Burgess said there was an audible gasp from the cast when Ciara and Brandon were eliminated.
Tatyana Ali was particularly disappointed because she believed Ciara had just delivered her best dance, while Rylee Arnold said she had hoped Brandon could finally make a run at his first Mirrorball Trophy.
Connor Wood also described Ciara and Brandon as an important supportive presence behind the scenes, highlighting how quickly relationships have developed among this season’s contestants.
The reaction has extended beyond the ballroom.
Former Summer House castmates Paige DeSorbo and Hannah Berner publicly questioned the result, reflecting the broader frustration among some viewers following Ciara’s departure. Their reaction represents opinion about the outcome, however, not evidence that anything improper occurred with the voting.
For Ciara, debating whether the elimination was fair doesn’t appear to be the biggest issue.
What hurts is how suddenly something she had grown to love disappeared.
She was improving.
She had just earned her best score.
She had developed a partnership with Brandon that became personally meaningful.
And she believed she still had considerably more to show.
That is why this goodbye has been so difficult.
Ciara Miller may have left the ballroom after only four weeks, but judging by her emotional response, the experience — and especially her partnership with Brandon Armstrong — meant far more to her than the short run might suggest.
