MASSIVE EPISODE CHANGE — ‘The Voice’ Announces Major Schedule Shakeup That Will Change How Fans Watch the Rest of Season 30

The Voice Season 30 is changing its schedule again — and this time the adjustment will affect viewers for essentially the rest of the competition.

After a season that has already bounced between one, two and even three episodes in a single week, NBC is preparing to move the singing competition onto a much more limited weekly schedule.

The change begins after the current round of Battles.

The Voice aired Battle episodes on Monday, October 12, and Tuesday, October 13, giving viewers two consecutive nights of performances and eliminations.

But beginning Monday, October 19, the show is scheduled to air only once per week, with two-hour episodes airing Mondays from 8 to 10 p.m. ET/PT.

That means fans who have grown accustomed to watching The Voice on both Monday and Tuesday nights won’t have another regular Tuesday episode for much of the remaining season.

There is a major reason for the change.

NBC’s new multi-year partnership with the NBA brings basketball programming into the network’s Tuesday-night schedule, forcing The Voice to give up the second night it has traditionally used during many previous seasons.

The schedule shift isn’t the only major change waiting for Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, Riley Green and Queen Latifah’s remaining artists.

Season 30 is also eliminating one of the show’s most familiar competition stages.

There will be no traditional Knockout Rounds.

Instead, the Battles will eventually lead into a brand-new stage called Cut Week.

Cut Week is expected to be especially brutal.

Each coach will enter the round with seven artists.

Kelly, Adam, Riley and Queen will each select two singers to move directly into the Live Shows, while the remaining five artists on each team will have to perform for one final opportunity to survive.

From those five, each coach will choose only one additional singer.

That leaves each team with three artists heading into the Lives — producing a Top 12 across the four teams.

America will then have an opportunity to bring an additional eliminated artist back, creating the Top 13 for the live competition.

So instead of the traditional Knockouts gradually narrowing the teams, Season 30 will deliver a much more dramatic mass elimination in a single stage.

And that isn’t the final format change.

Once the Live Shows begin, voting itself will look very different.

For the first time, The Voice plans to use real-time voting, meaning viewers will watch the singers perform, cast their votes and then learn who survives during the same broadcast.

Executive producer Audrey Morrissey explained the new system simply: everyone performs, voting happens live, and the results are revealed that night.

That makes Season 30 feel much closer to the format currently used on shows such as Dancing With the Stars, where viewers need to vote while the program is still airing rather than waiting until the following day.

For longtime Voice fans, that could be one of the most important changes to remember.

Waiting until after an episode ends to vote may no longer be an option once the Lives begin.

The show has already experimented with an unusual schedule this season.

Premiere week began with three consecutive nights on September 21, 22 and 23.

September 28 brought only one episode, followed by another Monday-and-Tuesday combination on October 5 and 6.

The Battles then continued with another two-night run on October 12 and 13.

From October 19 forward, however, Mondays become the primary night viewers will need to remember.

The changes also mean every episode becomes more important.

With fewer weekly broadcasts, no traditional Knockouts and a ruthless new Cut Week, Season 30 is moving through the competition in a very different way from many previous seasons.

The coaches have already experienced how difficult the Battles can be.

Now their decisions are only going to become harder.

So for fans trying to follow Kelly Clarkson, Riley Green, Adam Levine and Queen Latifah’s teams, the biggest schedule reminder is simple:

After October 13, stop expecting regular Tuesday episodes.

Beginning October 19, The Voice moves primarily to Monday nights — and the road to the Season 30 finale becomes faster, harsher and far more unpredictable.
