Queen Latifah faced one of her toughest decisions yet on The Voice Season 30 after Alt Bloom and Morgan Lett delivered a soulful Battle that left all four coaches impressed.
The Team Queen singers were paired together for Lauryn Hill’s “Ex-Factor,” a song that demanded emotion, control and the ability to bring something personal to an already iconic performance.
On paper, Alt and Morgan appeared to be an unusual matchup.
Alt entered the Battle with more of an indie singer-songwriter sound, while Morgan brought a smoother R&B and soul approach.
But once they started singing together, those differences became the reason the performance worked so well.

Their voices blended especially well during the harmonies, while each singer still had opportunities to show what made them different.
Adam Levine immediately praised the performance, calling the duet amazing.
Kelly Clarkson seemed equally stunned by how successfully they had handled such a difficult song.
“You all just crushed Lauryn Hill on national television!” Kelly told them, admitting she had initially been worried because Lauryn Hill songs are incredibly difficult to cover successfully.
Then came the difficult part.
The other coaches weren’t completely united on who should move forward.
Kelly leaned toward Alt Bloom.
She was particularly impressed with his vocal range and the way he navigated a song that was somewhat outside the style viewers had previously heard from him.
Adam also highlighted Alt’s range, while praising the overall performance from both singers.
But Riley Green went the opposite direction.
Riley favored Morgan Lett, believing her energy and performance gave her the edge.
That split opinion showed just how evenly matched the Battle really was.
Queen then explained what she appreciated about both singers.
Morgan impressed her with unexpected, jazz-influenced vocal choices.
Instead of simply singing the melody in the most predictable way, she made unusual decisions without losing control of the song.
Alt faced a different challenge.
“Ex-Factor” naturally sits closer to Morgan’s R&B world than Alt’s indie singer-songwriter style, meaning he had to adapt considerably.
Queen was impressed by how successfully he did it.
That made the final choice painful.
Queen told both artists that she viewed them as winners and even joked that she simply didn’t want to make the decision.

But Battle Rounds require coaches to choose.
Eventually, Queen selected ALT BLOOM as the winner.
And her explanation showed just how close it really was.
According to Queen, Alt won the Battle “by a nose.”
Morgan Lett was eliminated after an impressive performance that clearly had support from at least one other coach.
That may be the most surprising part of the result.
Morgan didn’t lose because she had a weak Battle.
Riley actually preferred her performance, and Queen praised the creative vocal choices she made throughout the song.
Alt simply managed to show Queen something she may not have expected from him.
He stepped outside his most obvious musical lane, handled a demanding Lauryn Hill song and demonstrated enough versatility to convince his coach that she wanted to hear more.
That versatility may ultimately have tipped the decision.
For Alt Bloom, the result means another opportunity to prove how far his sound can stretch as Season 30 moves toward the new Cut Week.
For Morgan Lett, it was a frustratingly narrow ending after a Battle where the coaches clearly believed both singers belonged on the stage.
And Queen Latifah’s own words probably sum it up best:
There wasn’t a runaway winner.
Alt Bloom won this one by a nose.
