Ever since The Voice hit NBC in 2011, viewers were hooked on more than just powerhouse vocals—they tuned in for the bromance between original coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. Their hilarious banter and love-hate dynamic became just as much a part of the show’s DNA as the spinning red chairs.
Now, with Adam Levine stepping away again after just one season back, fans are wondering if this could finally be the move that lures Blake Shelton out of Voice retirement.
Adam Without Blake? “It Wasn’t the Same”
According to an insider quoted by The U.S. Sun, Levine didn’t have quite the comeback he imagined during Season 27, where he coached without Shelton by his side for the first time.
“Adam didn’t realize how much his experience was made by having Blake on set… he definitely feels Blake’s void and misses him,” the source revealed. “He didn’t have as much fun as he did in the past.”
While Levine reportedly respects the other coaches, including Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg, and Kelsea Ballerini, the energy just wasn’t what it used to be without his on-screen foil.
Levine’s Focus Shifts to Music (and Lisa from BLACKPINK)
Levine’s latest departure may not be all about Blake, though. The Maroon 5 frontman is ramping up for a huge year musically. He teased new music during an appearance on The Tonight Show, including a summer album and a fall tour. The band’s newest single, “Priceless” (featuring K-pop superstar Lisa of BLACKPINK), has fans buzzing.
“I’m gonna confirm the rumors are true,” Levine said, smiling. “There’s a song, an album, and a tour. I’m really excited.”
Could Blake Be Next?

Meanwhile, Blake Shelton—who left The Voice in 2023 after 23 consecutive seasons—hasn’t shown serious signs of returning. But now that his longtime frenemy is missing the spark they shared, fans are holding out hope that a reunion could be in the works for a future season.
With Michael Bublé the only Season 27 coach returning for Season 28, there’s definitely room to shake things up. Could we see the ultimate Voice homecoming in 2026?
One thing’s for sure: The Voice just isn’t the same without Levine and Shelton trading jabs and swapping steals.
