Carrie Underwood welcomed a very special guest to the stage during her REFLECTION: The Las Vegas Residency on Saturday evening—her mom, Carole. The country superstar surprised the audience inside the Resorts World Theatre when she invited Carole to join her in singing her chart-topping hit, “All-American Girl.”
“Come here, my love,” Underwood said as she took her mother’s hand and walked her to center stage. “This is mom! Are you ready? Do you have anything you want to say to these fine people?”
“I’m so happy you’re here and I hope you enjoy the show,” Carole replied as fans cheered.
“She said she knows the words and I think she does,” Underwood added before prompting her band to start playing. “Ready? 1, 2, 1, 2, 3 – hit it!”
The mother-daughter duo performed the song together, and the seven-time GRAMMY winner even let her mom take on a few solos throughout the performance. Carole held her own on stage and at one point mimicked one of Underwood’s signature moves, prompting the “Ghost Story” singer to laugh and sweetly say, “I love you.”
Underwood later documented the special moment on Instagram, sharing several photos and a heartfelt message for her mom. She recalled her mother’s encouragement when she was considering trying out for American Idol and nearly talked herself out of it.
“‘If you wanna go, I’ll take you.’ These might have been the most pivotal words anyone has ever spoken to me,” she wrote. “I was busy talking myself out of trying out for American Idol and my mom said these words…the rest is history. Tonight, I got to sing with her on stage in front of the most incredible crowd in #LasVegas. Life sure is amazing! Thanks, Mom, for everything!”
Following their performance, Underwood said, “Give it up for mom!” before they shared a hug and a kiss as Carole exited the stage.
This wasn’t the first time the mother-daughter pair had shared the spotlight. Back in October 2019, during the Cry Pretty Tour, Carole joined Underwood on stage to perform “The Champion.” Underwood later shared a video of that performance with the caption, “Nailed it! I kept trying to keep her on track! 😂 At the end she said, ‘Did I do OK?’ Who knew Mom could rap?!”
The touching duet with her mom came just days after the release of Underwood’s much-anticipated new single, “Ghost Story,” the lead track from her forthcoming studio album.
