Hannah Harper Returns With New Country Song as Husband Devon Stars in Sweet “Hold Your Horses” Video

Hannah Harper is keeping the momentum going after her American Idol victory, releasing a brand-new country song titled “Hold Your Horses” along with an official music video featuring her husband, Devon Mendenhall.

The reigning American Idol winner released the track on September 4, making it her second major release since winning Season 24 earlier this year. The song follows her fan-favorite single “Married Into This Town.”

“Hold Your Horses” takes a playful look at marriage and those moments when emotions start running a little too high. Rather than turning the situation into something overly serious, Hannah uses humor and country imagery to deliver a simple message about slowing down before an argument gets out of control.

That personality carries directly into the accompanying music video, where Devon once again appears alongside his wife. A preview released before the song arrived showed Devon walking toward Hannah, taking her hand and twirling her around.

The couple’s appearance together is especially fitting because Hannah’s music has increasingly reflected her real life. She and Devon are raising three children while Hannah adjusts to a rapidly growing career that now includes recording, touring and performing for much larger audiences.

Devon also appeared in visuals connected to Hannah’s previous release, “Married Into This Town.” That song was inspired by the Missouri community she came to call home after marrying into Devon’s family and settling in Willow Springs.

Hannah originally debuted “Married Into This Town” during her hometown celebration while she was still competing on American Idol. Fans responded strongly enough that she later released a full studio version following her victory.

“Hold Your Horses,” however, shows another side of her songwriting. Instead of focusing on hometown pride, the new track uses a lighthearted disagreement between a couple to explore the everyday realities of relationships.

The official video was directed by Nathaniel Maddux, giving Hannah another opportunity to establish her identity beyond the television competition that introduced her to a national audience.

Her post-Idol schedule has already become increasingly busy. Hannah and her family band have been playing headline concerts while she has also joined Brad Paisley for select tour dates, putting her in front of established country audiences across the country.

Even with the sudden attention, Hannah has continued emphasizing family as an important part of her life. Devon and their children have remained closely connected to her journey, including traveling with her while she tours.

With “Hold Your Horses,” Hannah Harper appears to be building her post-American Idol career around something viewers already responded to during the competition: songs rooted in her own marriage, family and small-town life. And by bringing Devon into the video once again, her newest release feels less like a carefully manufactured country single and more like another piece of the life that inspired her music in the first place.
