BRUSLY — From giving valedictorian speeches to earning standing ovations on national TV, John Foster is truly shining. The Louisiana native and 2024 Brusly High School graduate has made it to the Top 3 on American Idol—and his hometown is showing him big love.
On Wednesday, John returned to his roots, visiting Brusly High School where he once stood out as a star student. Speaking to students and teachers on the football field, he shared heartfelt words about how much the school meant to him.
“You all are lucky to be here,” John said. “These teachers truly care about you. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.”
John was co-valedictorian of his class, had a GPA over 4.0, and scored 33 on the ACT—but it’s his talent and heart that have the whole town cheering now.
To celebrate, a parade will roll through Addis at 5:00 p.m. on First Street. Locals are encouraged to show up early wearing hometown colors. Then, the party moves to Plaquemine for a free concert at Bayou Plaquemine Waterfront Park starting at 7:30 p.m. (gates open at 6:30). Boats are welcome, and John will even arrive by boat around 7:00!
Security checks and a clear bag policy will be in place at the concert.
Addis Mayor David Toups shared his excitement: “John is making us proud. He’s not just representing Brusly and Addis—he’s representing all of Louisiana.”
Brusly High Principal Walt Lemoine also praised John, saying, “Just last year he was giving his valedictorian speech in our gym. Now, he’s in the Top 3 on American Idol. That’s amazing.”
The whole town is buzzing with energy. Between school events and John’s Idol journey, everyone is in a celebratory mood. “It feels like there’s something exciting around every corner,” Principal Lemoine added.

As a small town with a big heart, Brusly is ready to cheer for their hometown hero in a big way. The school has even sent out forms so students can appear on camera during John’s visit.
While the community has faced tough times before, this moment is filled with joy, pride, and hope—thanks to one of their own chasing his dreams and inspiring others along the way.
And as John returns home this week, the message from Brusly is loud and clear: We’re proud of you. We believe in you. And we’ll be cheering you on to the finale!
