With a voice forged in gospel choirs and refined on the American Idol stage, Mississippi’s Jamal Roberts continues to soar as one of Season 23’s most talked-about contestants. Now a member of the Top 7, Roberts faces a fresh challenge: Double Disney Night, a two-part episode airing May 11 and 12 on ABC that promises both magic and pressure.
Known for blending vocal agility with emotional depth, Roberts has captivated judges and fans alike with his genre-crossing performances. But tackling unfamiliar Disney classics? That’s another story.
“In a way, the songs are assigned,” Roberts recently told The Meridian Star. “They’re on a list, so you have to choose from that list… Most of the songs I’ve sung so far, I didn’t know. I had to really learn them. And that’s stressful.”
Even so, Roberts has never shied away from a challenge. From his showstopping cover of Fantasia’s “I Believe”—which drew a standing ovation—to his viral performance of Teeks’ “First Time”, he’s proven his ability to take any song and make it unforgettable.
That love is extending beyond Idol. On May 6, Ground Zero Blues Club Biloxi announced Roberts will headline a live concert on August 8, backed by the GZ House Band. Tickets go on sale May 13, and fans are already buzzing.
Now, with Disney tunes in hand, he’s focused on honoring both the music and his roots. “The Class of 2016 has been supporting me wholeheartedly,” he said. “Even restaurants like Don P’s that I’ve never been to… they’ve shown so much love.”\https://youtu.be/5xi0rPS5tUc
“From national TV to our stage, Jamal brings the same fire that’s taken him to the top,” the venue said in a statement.
Whether performing “Tennessee Whiskey” or a Disney anthem, Jamal Roberts is proving that his star isn’t just rising—it’s here to stay.
