The Voice Season 30 is preparing for one of the most dramatic changes in the show’s format, with a massive elimination coming before the Live Shows — followed by a new opportunity for viewers to rescue one artist.
NBC has confirmed the introduction of “Cut Week,” a new stage the network is describing as the biggest elimination in The Voice history.
By the time Cut Week begins, each of the four coaches — Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, Queen Latifah and Riley Green — will have seven artists remaining on their teams.
That is where things become brutal.
Each coach will personally select two artists to advance directly to the Live Shows. Those singers will immediately be safe, but the other five members of each team will have to fight for just one remaining position.
That means five singers from Team Adam will compete for one spot, five from Team Kelly will do the same, followed by the remaining artists from Team Queen and Team Riley.
When Cut Week is finished, every coach will be left with only three singers.
With four coaches and three contestants apiece, that creates the official Top 12 heading toward the Live Shows.
But Season 30 is adding another twist.
Instead of allowing every artist eliminated during Cut Week to simply go home, viewers will be given the opportunity to vote one additional singer into the competition.
The contestant who receives that lifeline will join the other 12 artists, officially creating a Top 13 for the Live Shows.
It means the coaches will control most of the decisions during Cut Week, but fans will ultimately have the final say on one contestant whose journey appeared to be over.
The change could become especially important if a popular Blind Audition standout unexpectedly fails to earn one of their coach’s three available positions. For the first time in this format, viewer support could immediately reverse that result.
Season 30 will then move into six weeks of Live Shows, including themed episodes such as Dolly Parton Tribute Week, Y2K and TikTok. The broadcasts will also be simulcast live on NBC and Peacock across all U.S. time zones.
Voting is changing as well, with fans able to participate through text messaging and the show’s official TikTok voting post during the live competition.
The Blind Auditions may currently be focused on coaches building their strongest teams, but Cut Week changes the equation completely. Seven artists per coach will quickly become three — and after one of the biggest cuts The Voice has ever attempted, viewers will get the power to give one eliminated singer a second chance.
