A Mississippi real estate firm has ended its association with an independent contractor after a viral video showed a man confronting a father who had taken his two young daughters into an empty women’s restroom at a gas station.
The incident involved Oklahoma father Tyler Brodsky, who said he was traveling with his daughters when they stopped at a QuikTrip gas station in Alabama. Brodsky said he chose the women’s restroom because it was empty and he did not feel comfortable taking two little girls into a men’s restroom.
According to Brodsky, he knocked first and announced that he was coming in with his daughters before entering. He said the restroom was empty at the time.
Moments later, the video shows another man standing near the restroom entrance and loudly confronting him. The man argued that Brodsky should have taken the girls into the men’s restroom instead.

Brodsky disagreed, saying he was trying to protect his daughters and make the safest decision in an uncomfortable public situation. He later explained that many parents face moments where there is no perfect option, only the choice they believe best protects their children.
The confrontation became more tense as one of Brodsky’s daughters became upset. Video showed the child crying and staying close to her father while the argument continued.
A QuikTrip manager eventually stepped in and helped calm the situation. Reports say the manager closed the restroom door, checked on the children, and apologized to Brodsky and his daughters.
Police were later called to the gas station. In a follow-up video, Brodsky said officers arrived quickly, handled the situation calmly, and told him he had done nothing wrong.
He also said the officers helped reassure his daughters after the frightening encounter. Brodsky later praised both the police and the QuikTrip manager for the way they responded.
The video quickly spread online, where many viewers defended Brodsky. Parents, especially fathers of daughters, said they understood why he chose the empty women’s restroom instead of taking young girls into the men’s room.
As the backlash grew, Overstreet Properties in Starkville, Mississippi, confirmed that it had become aware of the footage involving a man who worked with the company as an independent contractor.
In a public statement, the company said the behavior shown in the video did not reflect its values or the standards it expects from people representing the organization.
The firm said it is no longer associated with the man in the video. Fox News reported that the company did not identify him by name in its statement.
The incident has sparked a wider conversation about public restrooms, parents traveling alone with children, and the lack of family-friendly facilities in many places. Many commenters said the situation could have been avoided with more understanding and less public confrontation.
For Brodsky, the moment was about keeping his daughters safe during a road trip. But after the video went viral, it became a national debate over parenting, privacy, and how quickly a stranger’s reaction can turn a difficult decision into a public controversy.
