Riley Green’s latest The Voice Battle came with a complication he apparently hadn’t planned for.
Team Riley singers Caroline Alexis and Everett Bounds weren’t simply two country contestants preparing to compete against each other.
They had started dating after meeting behind the scenes during the Blind Auditions.
The two revealed that their connection began backstage before either had even reached the Battle Rounds.

Everett immediately noticed Caroline and later surprised her by sending flowers along with a handwritten note asking her to dinner.
Caroline admitted she hadn’t expected the gesture because the two hadn’t spoken very much at that point.
But she accepted.
By the time their Battle arrived, Caroline said they had already gone on a couple of dates and were continuing to get to know one another.
She was careful not to rush the relationship.
Caroline said she wanted to take things slowly, but praised Everett for being supportive and uplifting — qualities that suddenly became especially useful when the two discovered they would have to compete against each other.
Then Riley gave them a song that made their situation impossible to ignore.
He assigned Caroline and Everett the classic Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn duet “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man.”
With Carly Pearce helping Riley prepare the singers, rehearsals quickly became less about whether they had chemistry and more about how much of it they were willing to show.
Riley praised Everett’s natural ability to perform, while Carly highlighted Caroline’s country drawl and richness.
Riley believed the decision would ultimately come down to which singer could fully commit to the characters in the song.
So he gave them a very simple instruction:
Lean into the chemistry.

Everett certainly didn’t seem uncomfortable with that idea.
He admitted that singing the duet directly to Caroline would come naturally considering their connection outside the competition.
But there was another side to the story.
Only one artist could be guaranteed to stay on Team Riley.
That meant the same relationship making their performance easier also made the Battle considerably more emotional.
Caroline acknowledged how strange the situation was and wondered aloud what would happen between them after the competition.
Everett had even joked that she had better continue answering his phone calls afterward.
When they finally stepped onto the stage, the pair delivered an energetic traditional-country performance filled with playful interaction.
Kelly Clarkson enjoyed the throwback feel, comparing the performance to the kind of country duets associated with legendary pairings like Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner.
Riley said Caroline and Everett had transformed the room into a honky-tonk and made him feel right at home.

But eventually he had to choose.
Riley selected Everett Bounds as the winner.
He explained that Everett looked especially natural performing the upbeat traditional-country style and said that was something he wanted to keep on his team heading into Cut Week.
That meant Caroline’s Voice journey came to an end.
And suddenly the question was no longer simply who had won the Battle.
It was what would happen to the connection that had started behind the scenes.
For now, there is no confirmed update establishing that Caroline and Everett are officially still together.
However, they continue following each other on social media and even collaborated on a joint post promoting their Battle, suggesting that they remain on good terms at minimum.
The distance could also make things complicated.
Caroline is from Alabama, while Everett is from California, meaning any continuing relationship could involve long-distance dating.
Still, their Voice experience has already given Season 30 something viewers don’t usually see:
Two contestants who met on the show, began exploring a relationship — and then were forced by their own coach to sing a romantic country duet directly against each other.
Everett may have won the Battle.
But whether The Voice also produced a relationship that survives beyond the competition is one storyline fans may now be watching just as closely.
