The Voice Season 30 coach Riley Green has surprised former Team Riley contestant Brandy Neelly by fulfilling a promise he made during her Blind Audition. Although the 31-year-old Nashville singer was eliminated during the Battle Rounds, Green followed through on a lighthearted agreement that began when the two discovered an unexpected personal connection. The gesture has brought renewed attention to their memorable interaction earlier in the competition.
The story began during the October 5 Blind Auditions when Neelly performed Jo Dee Messina’s country hit “Lesson in Leavin’.” Her confident performance impressed both Green and Queen Latifah, who turned their chairs in hopes of recruiting her. However, the audition became even more memorable when Neelly revealed that she had previously baked one of Green’s birthday cakes.
Neelly, who works as a baker alongside pursuing her music career, explained that she had created a special cake for the country star several years earlier. When she showed Green a photograph of the dessert, he immediately recognized it. The cake featured a duck-themed design reflecting his well-known interest in hunting, and Green recalled enjoying the creation.
The revelation gave Green an unexpected advantage as he competed against Queen Latifah to recruit the singer. After praising Neelly’s distinctive country voice, he made an unusual offer to encourage her to join his team. Green promised that if she selected him as her coach, he would make a cake for her in return.

Neelly accepted the offer and chose Team Riley, beginning what appeared to be a promising journey in the competition. Unfortunately, her time on the show ended sooner than she had hoped. During the October 6 Battle Round episode, Green paired her against Tennessee sisters Ferryn and Brinkley Wright for a performance of Miranda Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart.”
The performance received positive feedback from the coaching panel, with Neelly earning praise for her powerful voice and energetic stage presence. However, Green ultimately selected Ferryn and Brinkley to advance, explaining that their close harmonies and experience performing together gave them considerable potential. The decision made Neelly the first contestant eliminated during Season 30’s Battle Rounds.
Despite the disappointing result, Neelly expressed gratitude for her experience and thanked Green for believing in her abilities. She also shared her excitement about releasing new music, making it clear that her elimination would not prevent her from continuing to pursue a professional singing career. Her positive response earned encouragement from supporters who had enjoyed watching her perform.
Now, approximately a month after her departure, Green has delivered the surprise he promised during their first meeting. Neelly recently shared a video revealing an elaborate three-tier cake decorated with camouflage patterns, pink frosting, miniature ducks, and a microphone. The creation also featured The Voice emblem and the words “Team Riley,” celebrating the connection they formed during the competition.
The cake was professionally created by Nashville baker Mads Eatz, with Neelly explaining in a social media comment that Green served as its creative director. She also shared photographs of the finished dessert and thanked her former coach for keeping his word. The gesture demonstrated that Green had not forgotten their agreement, even though Neelly was no longer competing on his team.
As The Voice prepares for its November 9 Live Shows, Green remains focused on guiding his remaining contestants toward the championship. Meanwhile, Neelly’s unexpected gift has provided a heartwarming reminder that meaningful connections can continue beyond the competition itself. Although her journey ended during the Battles, Green’s thoughtful gesture ensured that one of Season 30’s most memorable Blind Audition moments received a fitting conclusion.
