Blake Shelton Grants a Final Wish in a Private, Heart-Shattering Performance
In one of the most moving moments of his career, Blake Shelton stepped off the stage and into a hospital room to fulfill the final wish of 12-year-old Emily Harper—a brave leukemia patient at the Jimmy Everest Center in Oklahoma.
Her simple request? To hear Shelton sing her favorite song, “God Gave Me You,” live.
When her family reached out, the hospital staff coordinated with Shelton’s team. Without hesitation, he rearranged his Friends & Heroes tour schedule and flew straight to Oklahoma—returning to a place that holds personal meaning, as Shelton donated $600,000 to the center in 2016.
A Bittersweet Day of Music and Light
On March 10, Shelton walked into Emily’s room wearing his signature jeans and black T-shirt, guitar slung over his shoulder.
“Hey Emily,” he smiled, “I heard you’re my biggest fan. I couldn’t let you down.”
Then, with only the soft hum of machines in the background, he began to sing “God Gave Me You.” His voice was soft, emotional. Emily, though weak, beamed. In her hands, she clutched a stuffed bear she’d named “Blakey.”
Shelton followed with tender acoustic renditions of “Austin” and “Honey Bee,” and stayed well after the last chord faded, swapping stories from The Voice, which Emily adored.
