The Voice’s Brooklyn Marie, 14, Speaks Out After Elton John Performance During Cut Week Draws Fan Reactions

The Voice Season 30 contestant Brooklyn Marie has attracted attention following her emotional performance during the November 2 Cut Week episode. The 14-year-old singer from Alexandria, Minnesota, delivered a memorable rendition of Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” earning praise from the coaches. However, despite her impressive vocals, Brooklyn failed to secure automatic advancement to the Live Shows, leaving her future in the competition dependent on America’s wildcard vote.

The newly introduced Cut Week format presented one of the biggest challenges in the show’s history. Each coach entered the episode with seven remaining contestants but could advance only three directly to the Live Shows. Two artists were selected automatically, while the remaining five performed for one final guaranteed position. The format meant that even contestants who delivered impressive performances could find themselves facing elimination.

Kelly Clarkson began by selecting Koumba Diallo and Anna McElroy for automatic advancement. Their selections left Brooklyn competing against Marcus Ladden Jr., Brianna Cameron, Nina Howland, and Kyle Davis. Each contestant brought a distinctive musical style to the stage, creating a difficult decision for Clarkson as she prepared to complete her team.

Brooklyn chose Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” a classic that allowed her to demonstrate both her delicate vocal tone and impressive upper range. Her performance began with a gentle delivery before building into more powerful moments. The contrast highlighted her ability to interpret a familiar song in a way that suited her voice and musical personality.

Adam Levine was particularly impressed by Brooklyn’s performance, praising her ability to reach demanding high notes with control. He also emphasized that she had considerable time to continue developing as an artist, especially given her young age. Clarkson expressed similar admiration, praising Brooklyn’s bold song choice and the distinctive innocence that made her performance so engaging.

Despite the positive feedback, Brooklyn faced strong competition from her fellow Team Kelly contestants. Brianna Cameron, the youngest singer in the competition at 13, delivered a powerful rendition of Natalie Cole’s “Inseparable.” Her performance left Clarkson visibly emotional and drew comparisons to Whitney Houston, ultimately influencing the coach’s final decision.

Clarkson selected Brianna for the last guaranteed position, completing her Live Shows lineup alongside Koumba and Anna. The announcement meant Brooklyn, Marcus, Nina, and Kyle missed automatic advancement. Although the decision was disappointing for Brooklyn, she remained eligible for the audience’s wildcard vote, which offered one eliminated contestant a chance to return.

Brooklyn had already experienced an emotional journey before reaching Cut Week. During the Battle Rounds, she competed against 18-year-old Kavi Nyx, a fellow contestant with whom she had developed a close friendship. Clarkson ultimately selected Brooklyn to advance, but the teenager later admitted that saying goodbye to Kavi was difficult because they had become close while spending time together during the competition.

Speaking about that experience, Brooklyn described the victory as bittersweet. She explained that contestants naturally enter the competition hoping to succeed, but the friendships they develop make eliminations emotionally challenging. Brooklyn revealed that she and Kavi had spent considerable time together behind the scenes, making their separation particularly difficult. Her comments offered viewers a glimpse of the relationships that develop away from the televised performances.

With the Live Shows beginning November 9, Brooklyn’s future remains uncertain until the wildcard result is announced. The teenager has already demonstrated considerable musical potential, from her Blind Audition performance of Olivia Rodrigo’s “traitor” to her interpretation of Elton John’s classic during Cut Week. Regardless of whether she receives another opportunity on The Voice, Brooklyn continues to pursue her musical ambitions, with original songs already released and plans to develop more music in the future.
