With his signature Southern charm and rich country vocals, American Idol standout John Foster is quickly becoming a fan favorite — but it’s his heart, not just his voice, that’s capturing America’s attention.

The 18-year-old singer from Addis, Louisiana, shared a heartwarming announcement ahead of American Idol’s much-anticipated Disney Night: he successfully raised $5,300 for the American Cancer Society through a Facebook fundraiser. “Join me as we select the 15 people to receive autographs! Thank you so very much! ❤️ #findacure #CANCERSUCKS #idol,” Foster posted, proving he’s more than just a rising star — he’s a young man on a mission.

Even while competing on the national stage, Foster hasn’t let go of his long-term dream: to become an oncologist. During his audition for judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood, he spoke openly about his passion for helping cancer patients. That dedication hasn’t wavered. According to his grandmother, Verbie Benoit, Foster has been continuing his biology studies at Louisiana State University remotely while preparing for his performances — juggling life as both a student and a star.

“Whether I decide to pursue medicine or music full-time, I will always be involved in fighting for a cure,” Foster wrote on his fundraiser page. And if the overwhelming support from fans and family is any indication, the young Idol has a powerful platform no matter which path he follows.

As he competes for a spot in the Top 5, Foster is set to bring even more magic to the stage during Disney Night — a two-night celebration airing Sunday, May 11, and Monday, May 12, on ABC. He’ll be singing “Almost There” from The Princess and the Frog during Night 1, joining fellow Top 7 contestants in delivering beloved Disney classics.

The Disney celebration will also include visits to Disneyland Resort, mentorship from Lin-Manuel Miranda, and a special performance from Season 21 winner Iam Tongi. But for many viewers, the true magic will be watching John Foster live out two dreams at once: singing his heart out while championing the fight against cancer.
