Jamal Roberts ‘Heal’ Hits No. 1 on iTunes After American Idol Win — John Foster and Breanna Nix Also Climb the Charts

With the confetti still settling from his win on American Idol Season 23, Jamal Roberts has already made his next big move — straight to the top of the iTunes Hits chart.

Roberts’ stirring original single “HEAL” soared to No. 1 just days after he was crowned this season’s champion, surpassing industry heavyweights Jelly Roll and Brandon Lake. The track, released through Idol, has now held its top position for three consecutive days, solidifying Roberts’ rapid rise from Mississippi schoolteacher to breakout music star.

The 27-year-old physical education teacher from Meridian captivated audiences throughout the season with his soulful vocals and gospel-infused performances. In the finale — which featured high-profile collaborations and the largest vote tally in show history, according to host Ryan Seacrest — Roberts’ emotionally charged rendition of “HEAL,” a duet with Jelly Roll, and a Tom Odell cover earned him not only America’s vote, but also a $250,000 cash prize and a recording deal with Hollywood Records/19 Recordings.

And he wasn’t the only one making waves.

Runner-up John Foster and third-place finisher Breanna Nix also skyrocketed on the iTunes charts following the finale. Foster’s heartfelt ballad “Tell That Angel I Love Her” currently holds steady in the No. 3 spot — an impressive feat considering the track has remained on the chart for 19 days. Meanwhile, Nix’s uplifting anthem “Higher” landed at No. 2, matching Roberts in chart longevity with a strong three-day streak in the top positions.

All three finalists brought more than just vocal chops to the stage — they brought stories of resilience, faith, and dedication that resonated with viewers across the country.

For Roberts, music has been a lifelong calling shaped by his church roots and unwavering determination. After auditioning unsuccessfully as a teen, he returned to Idol this year with refined skills and a clear sense of purpose. “I didn’t get defeated,” Roberts told Billboard. “I never gave up. I took the ‘no,’ used it for my gain, and tried again.”

That persistence paid off. His performance of “HEAL” not only stunned audiences but also proved that his message — one of hope, healing, and strength — had found a powerful platform.

Breanna Nix, a Christian artist and stay-at-home mom from Denton, Texas, was also a standout this season, drawing attention for her unwavering faith and powerhouse vocals. “To God be all the glory,” she wrote after making it to the top three. Her chart-topping single “Higher” has become a beacon of her deeply rooted spiritual message, earning admiration from both fans and fellow contestants.

Meanwhile, John Foster’s journey from aspiring singer to national favorite was marked by emotional depth and stage presence, culminating in his breakout hit “Tell That Angel I Love Her,” a track that continues to climb with every listen.

And the momentum isn’t slowing down. With Season 24 auditions already underway, executive producer Megan Michaels Wolflick confirmed that Idol is gearing up for another impactful year.
