The Voice’s Cade Mower Admits He Was “Very, Very Upset” With His Performance Despite Riley Green Sending Him to the Live Shows

The Voice Season 30 contestant Cade Mower has opened up about his disappointment with a recent performance, revealing that he was extremely frustrated with himself despite receiving praise from the coaches. The 35-year-old country singer from Bluffdale, Utah, admitted that his Battle Round duet did not turn out the way he had hoped. However, coach Riley Green continued to believe in his abilities, eventually selecting him for automatic advancement to the Live Shows.

Mower discussed his frustration during an October 27 interview after his Battle Round performance aired. Although the coaches responded positively to his duet with fellow contestant Brayden Howell, the singer explained that he was unhappy with several aspects of his delivery. He admitted that he had been particularly critical of his singing and felt the performance did not accurately represent what he was capable of doing.

The two contestants performed “Wondering Why” by The Red Clay Strays, a song Mower already knew well from his years of performing live. With approximately 15 years of experience singing in bars and other venues, he was comfortable with the material. However, the arrangement prepared for the competition introduced challenges that affected his confidence.

According to Mower, the song had been lowered to a different key to accommodate both singers. Although the adjustment worked for the duet, he felt it placed parts of the song outside his most comfortable vocal range. Hoping to demonstrate more of his abilities, he attempted to introduce additional vocal elements that he had not originally planned.

Looking back, Mower acknowledged that those last-minute decisions contributed to his disappointment. He explained that trying to add unnecessary vocal techniques distracted him from delivering the song naturally. The experience reminded him that his strongest performances often come from trusting his instincts rather than attempting to impress others with additional embellishments.

The singer also revealed that the television production process created unexpected difficulties. Unlike a traditional concert, where performers can maintain their momentum from beginning to end, filming involved interruptions and adjustments that affected his concentration. Mower recalled entering slightly too early on his first note, which left him frustrated and increasingly aware of other moments he believed could have been stronger.

Despite his personal disappointment, the coaches responded favorably to the duet. Kelly Clarkson praised Mower’s vocal ability, while Green ultimately selected him to advance over Howell. The decision demonstrated that the performance had made a stronger impression on the coaching panel than Mower initially believed.

His journey took another positive turn during the November 2 Cut Week episode. Under the competition’s new format, each coach could advance two contestants automatically before selecting a third from the remaining performers. Green chose Mower and sister duo Ferryn and Brinkley Wright for automatic advancement, allowing them to bypass another elimination performance. Joe Henley later secured the team’s final guaranteed Live Show position.

Away from the competition, Mower has also spoken about the personal challenges of pursuing a music career while raising a family. He and his wife, Lindsey, have two young children, and spending extended periods away from them during filming has been difficult. The singer explained that the experience has encouraged him to appreciate family time more deeply while continuing to pursue opportunities in country music.

With the Live Shows beginning November 9, Mower is determined to learn from his Battle Round experience and deliver a performance that better reflects his abilities. His journey began with a four-chair turn during his Blind Audition rendition of Zach Bryan’s “Something in the Orange,” and Green’s continued support has given him another opportunity to impress viewers. Although he remains critical of his earlier performance, the singer hopes to turn that frustration into motivation as he competes for the Season 30 title.
