American Idol fans are still celebrating after Hannah Harper officially won Season 24 of the hit ABC singing competition — but many viewers are now discovering that the biggest surprise may not be the trophy itself.

According to TV Insider, competitors who become members of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) may receive payments for episodes they appear in. Published figures from previous years revealed contestants could make more than $1,500 for two-hour episodes, over $1,300 for one-hour episodes, and hundreds more for shorter appearances.
And the perks don’t stop there.
Former reports from The Hollywood Reporter also claimed contestants received weekly wardrobe allowances during filming — giving them access to professionally styled outfits that they may even get to keep after episodes air.
For Hannah, however, the biggest reward may ultimately be the career opportunities that come after the show.
