FOUR-CHAIR TURN FOR NINA HOWLAND — Kelly Clarkson’s Reaction Gets Bleeped as the 24-Year-Old’s Broadway Background Surprises Fans

Nina Howland made a huge impression on The Voice Season 30 when the 24-year-old New York singer stepped onto the Blind Auditions stage and convinced all four coaches to turn their chairs.

Howland performed Bonnie Raitt’s “Love Me Like a Man,” bringing a soulful, bluesy sound and confident stage presence that immediately separated her from many of the season’s other singers.

By the end of the performance, Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, Queen Latifah and Riley Green had all turned, giving Nina the coveted four-chair turn.

Clarkson appeared especially excited by both Nina’s voice and her song choice. She revealed that “Love Me Like a Man” is actually a song she likes to sing herself, before making it very clear how much she loved what Nina had just done.

The excitement around Kelly’s reaction became one of the audition’s most talked-about moments, with part of her enthusiastic response being bleeped during the broadcast.

Levine focused on the versatility of Nina’s voice, telling her she possessed the kind of big, powerful sound that could work across several different styles rather than limiting her to one genre.

Queen Latifah was just as interested in Nina’s performance skills. She praised the way Nina commanded the song and used her movement and expression to make the performance feel believable rather than simply delivering impressive notes.

Even Riley Green found a way into the fight, joking about his own connection to the Bonnie Raitt song as all four coaches tried to convince Nina that their team would be the right home for her.

But Nina’s confidence onstage makes considerably more sense once her background is revealed.

She is a classically trained singer, dancer and actress who attended New York’s Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts before studying at Berklee College of Music, graduating in 2024.

Nina also has significant musical-theater experience. She has performed in the touring production of The Great Gatsby: A New Musical as Daisy Buchanan, while her father, Grammy-winning composer Jason Howland, wrote the musical’s music.

That means Nina didn’t arrive on The Voice as someone unfamiliar with major stages. Years of vocal training, theater work and dance experience were already behind the confidence viewers saw during her Blind Audition.

Still, a four-chair turn is never guaranteed, regardless of someone’s résumé. Nina had to convince four very different coaches using only her voice before they could even see who was standing onstage.

And she did exactly that. With all four chairs turned, an animated reaction from Kelly Clarkson and a Broadway background many viewers never expected, Nina Howland quickly established herself as one of Season 30’s most memorable Blind Audition contestants.
